Carson Valley Homeschool Weekly | June 7-13, 2026

Issue: #06
Hi Carson Valley Homeschool Weekly Friends!
Summer is officially underway, and this week brings some of the biggest family-friendly events of the season. Whether you're exploring a local festival, visiting a farmers market, celebrating Carson Valley Days, or discovering a new community resource, there are plenty of opportunities to learn, connect, and make lasting memories together.
As the newsletter continues to grow, I'm also working on a few improvements behind the scenes. In the coming weeks, I'll be creating a permanent directory for ongoing classes, programs, clubs, and activities, along with a dedicated scholarships, college, and career resources directory. My goal is to make these resources easy to access year-round while keeping each weekly newsletter focused on new opportunities and upcoming events rather than pages of links.
Thank you for being part of the Carson Valley Homeschool Weekly family. Your support, event submissions, and encouragement help make this newsletter a valuable resource for homeschool families across Carson Valley and the surrounding areas.
Here's what's happening for the week ofJune 7th–13th, 2026!

Nevada State Museum
📍600 N Carson St, Carson City, NV 89701
📞 (775) 687-4810
What it is:
Located in the historic Carson City Mint building, the Nevada State Museum brings Nevada's story to life through engaging exhibits on mining, geology, wildlife, Native cultures, and the state's rich history. Visitors can explore a replica underground mine, see historic coin presses, and discover artifacts that help tell the story of Nevada from prehistoric times to today.
Why homeschool families love it:
The museum offers a wide range of learning opportunities for multiple ages in one location. Whether your children are studying Nevada history, earth science, westward expansion, government, or natural history, you'll find exhibits that make these subjects feel real and memorable.
Try this:
Before your visit, have your kids make a list of three things they want to learn about Nevada. Afterward, challenge them to share their favorite exhibit or create a short presentation about something they discovered.
Admission discounts and special exhibits are available throughout the year, making this a destination worth visiting more than once.

💡Tip:Encourage your teen to start a "Brag File." Keep a simple folder (digital or paper) with volunteer hours, awards, projects, photos, leadership roles, certifications, work experience, and community service. When it's time to apply for scholarships, jobs, apprenticeships, or college, all the information is already in one place and easy to reference.

This Week’s Tip: Making Eye Contact When Someone Is Speaking
Introducing Friends to Each Other
Knowing how to introduce people is a simple skill that helps everyone feel welcome and included.
The basic idea:
When introducing two people, say both of their names and share a little information they might have in common.
Example:
"Sarah, this is Emma. Emma loves horses too and has been taking riding lessons this year."
This gives them an easy way to start a conversation.
Why it matters:
Making introductions helps new friendships form and shows consideration for others. It's a small act of kindness that can make someone feel more comfortable in a group.
Try this week:
If you're at a homeschool event, park day, or co-op, encourage your child to introduce one friend to another and mention something they both enjoy. It's a great way to practice confidence, conversation skills, and hospitality.
